How to know you have anxiety can be a confusing  issue for some people. Maybe you’ve just had a trip to the emergency room with chest pain, dizziness, and/or difficulty breathing and were told “it’s stress or anxiety, go home and relax”.  Or maybe you just have a constant slight racing-heart sensation in your chest. The symptoms of anxiety can vary from slight to full blown panic attacks, although not everyone that has anxiety experiences panic attacks or knows what to do about them.

You are not alone.

So, what does that mean to you in real life?

Let’s look at these symptoms this way…

Do you feel nervous and edgy in regular situations, ones that never really bothered you before?
Do enclosed spaces like the store, movie theaters, being in a car make you uncomfortable?
Do you have or have you had racing thoughts that just will not stop?
Do you feel nervous, more than you should?  Do you fear you might lose control or go insane?
Do you fear the idea of getting stuck in traffic (who doesn’t), but does it leave you with a sense of doom?
When stress levels seem to rise and you feel uncomfortable within yourself, do you fear that you are dying or are seriously ill?
Maybe you have tightness in your chest, your breathing is off and you fear you will
stop breathing or suffocate.
What to do…

Determine if your symptoms are anxiety related, some can be hard and some are obvious.  Have your doctor evaluate your situation and your symptoms.  Your physician can diagnosis you after checking you out to rule out any anxiety-related illnesses (for example, some conditions of the thyroid can cause anxiety).  If you are having a panic attack with more serious symptoms, please seek medical attention immediately, as those symptoms can mimic serious medical problems (i.e. heart, stomach, lung, etc…).  It is always better to be safe than sorry when dealing with symptoms that resemble these serious conditions.

Once you have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety (GAD) or panic attacks.  The next step will be accepting it and that can be easier said than done for some people.  Remember, that experiencing more symptoms or different symptoms doesn’t mean you are getting worse, or that you really have some other un-diagnosed condition, although
please note, your anxiety disorder can get worse without proper treatment.  So, the sooner you accept it, the sooner you can move on to fixing it.  I personally battled with this part, denying it for years.  Refusing to believe that there wasn’t a physiological explanation for what was happening to me, resulting is many years suffering a living hell needlessly.  Anxiety IS treatable.  Panic attacks ARE treatable.  It is okay and everything will be okay.  You will not going crazy, even though it may feel like you are.  You need to know that’s true.  You will be fine, as long as you to continue on this path you are on to recovery and follow through with it.

Getting help the right help is the final step, this is the best part, and it means the answers are right around the corner.  A sense of peace is coming your way.  I am so happy you have found this page so that you can get what you need to ercoming the nightmare of anxiety and panic attacks.
